(Excel) Unable to delegate cell/column-specific user writing permissions since migration to Office 365

Hello! Ever since our company migrated from Office 2016 with Local AD to Office 365 with Azure AD we have been unable to delegate user-specific writing permissions to specific columns/cells in our Excel documents. How do we achieve this in Office 365 with Azure AD?

Kind regards,

Alexander Syring

Hi @AlexanderSyring-5721,
Welcome to Q&A forum!

From the perspective of Excel client, we can achieve this by setting the allowable editing range.

  • Please go to Review>Allow Edit Ranges>click New..., and you can choose whether to check "Paste permissions information into a new workbook" option according to your needs.

  • Then set the range and click Permissions button to add the users or groups.

For references:
Apply different passwords or permissions to separate ranges in workbooks in Excel
Lock or unlock specific areas of a protected worksheet

Besides, since we are focused on general issues about Excel client, if you have any issues about Azure AD, I would suggest you post a new question on the following forum for more professional support.

Hi! I believe the solution you posted is only for local AD? We're currently using Azure AD and Office 365 so I don't believe that will be a viable solution.

The above suggestion is from the perspective of the Excel client, if it is does not work, I would suggest that you post a new question with tag azure-ad-authentication in this forum for more support and help.
