On the taskbar where the weather is, usually the newsfeed is available when you click on the weather icon. Now only the weather is there. When I hit the plus sign for add widget, the news is not an option. I have casual games, daily discovery, daily wonder, events near you, microsoft clipchamp, phone link, photos, sports, spotify, today's moment, watchlist, and weather. No news.

    Hi Sam Williams,

Thank you for the additional information.

If the Feed option is already enabled and the News/Discover section is still missing, I'd like to suggest a few additional checks.

First, please try signing out of the Widgets experience and then signing back in. Open Widgets by pressing Windows + W, select your profile icon in the upper-right corner, sign out, then close and reopen the Widgets board before signing back in with your Microsoft account. Because the News feed is tied to Microsoft Start and your account, this can sometimes refresh missing content.

You can also open the Microsoft Store, select Library, and choose Get updates to ensure all Store apps and components are fully up to date. Once the updates are installed, restart your PC and check whether the News/Discover feed has returned.

If the issue persists, it may be helpful to test with a new Windows profile. Open Settings > Accounts > Other users > Add account, select "I don't have this person's sign-in information", then choose "Add a user without a Microsoft account". Create the account, change its account type to Administrator, sign in to that profile and check whether the News/Discover feed appears there. If it does, the issue may be related to your current Windows profile.

Could you also let me know:

    • Your Windows 11 version and OS build (Settings > System > About).
    • Whether the News/Discover feed disappeared recently or has never been available.
    • Whether you're signed in with a Microsoft account or a local account.
    • Whether you've already tried repairing or resetting the Windows Web Experience Pack.

These details will help me narrow down whether this is a profile-related issue, a problem with the Widgets components, or a recent change to the Widgets experience.

I look forward to your update.

On Windows 11, the news content is part of the Widgets feed, not a separate widget that appears in the Add widgets list. That is why News does not show as an addable option while items like Weather, Sports, and Photos do.

    Try this:

    1. Open the Widgets board by selecting the weather area on the taskbar or pressing Windows key + W.
    2. Select the Settings button.
    3. Select Show or hide feeds.
    4. Make sure Feed is set to On.

If the Widgets button itself is hidden from the taskbar:

    1. Right-click the taskbar and select Taskbar settings.
    2. Under Taskbar items, turn Widgets On.

If only weather appears on the taskbar and no news stories are showing, also check:

    1. Open the Widgets board.
    2. Select the Settings button.
    3. Review whether Open Widgets board on hover is configured as expected.
    4. Select the user account button and check Language and content to make sure the feed is set to the preferred language and region.

Widgets can also be opened even if the taskbar button is hidden by pressing Windows key + W.
