I am locked out of my printer because someone or somehow your Windows Protection Mode was enabled without my knowledge. How do I turn it off. This is a small Church Office and I am the only one using my computer and HP Printer 8139e. My Pastor has a laptop and uses the Toshiba Printer, which is also locked out of printing for Word. Help!!!!!

    Hi,

    1. Press Win + R, type regedit, and press Enter.
    2. Go to the path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\Printers\WPP.
    3. Double-click WindowsProtectedPrintMode on the right side.
    4. Change the value data to 0 to turn off the feature.
    5. Click OK and restart your PC.

I look forward to hearing from you to get the results of the troubleshooting.

If Windows protected print mode was turned on, turn it off here:

    1. Select Start.
    2. Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
    3. Scroll down to Printer Preferences.
    4. Under Windows protected print mode, select Turn Off.
    5. Select Yes.

After it is disabled, non-compatible printers can be installed again. If a printer was removed when protected print mode was enabled, it must be manually reinstalled.

Important effects of Windows protected print mode:

    • Printers that use third-party drivers are uninstalled when the mode is enabled.
    • Some Mopria-certified printers that were originally installed with a third-party driver can also be removed, but can be reinstalled.
    • If the setting was enabled by group policy, it cannot be turned off locally; an administrator must change it.

If Word still cannot print after turning it off:

    1. Restart the Print Spooler service:
      • Press Windows key + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
      • Find Print Spooler, right-click it, and select Restart.
    2. Update or reinstall the printer driver:
      • Select Start > Device Manager.
      • Expand Printers.
      • Right-click the printer and select Update driver.
      • If no update is available, select Uninstall device, then restart the PC so Windows attempts to reinstall the driver automatically.
    3. If the printer shows offline, run the Windows printer troubleshooter in Get Help or check Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners > printer > Open queue, then make sure Use Printer Offline is cleared.
