Since the essential troubleshooting is already done, use this Windows 11 path next:

    1. Run the automated audio troubleshooter in the Get Help app: Run the troubleshooter in Get Help.
    2. Check the selected output device:
      • Select the Speakers icon on the taskbar.
      • Select the arrow to the right of the volume slider.
      • Make sure audio is going to the correct device, such as the built-in speakers or headphones.
    3. Check that the device is not muted or disabled:
      • Right-click the Speakers icon on the taskbar and select Open Volume mixer.
      • Make sure nothing is muted.
      • Go to Start > Settings > System > Sound.
      • Select the audio device, then Device properties.
      • Make sure the Disable check box is cleared for both output and input devices.
    4. If using USB, HDMI, headphones, or external speakers, set the correct default playback device:
      • Open Control Panel.
      • Go to Hardware and Sound > Sound.
      • On the Playback tab, right-click the correct audio device and select Set as Default Device.
    5. Check for Windows updates and restart:
      • Go to Start > Settings > Windows Update.
      • Select Check for updates.
      • Install available updates, then restart the PC.
    6. Update or reinstall the audio driver in Device Manager:
      • Search for device manager and open it.
      • Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
      • Right-click the sound device and select Update driver > Search automatically for drivers.
      • If that does not help, right-click the device again and select Uninstall device, then restart the PC so Windows reinstalls the driver.
      • Save open work before restarting.
    7. If the problem started after a Windows update, roll back the audio driver:
      • In Device Manager, right-click the sound device and select Properties.
      • Open the Driver tab.
      • Select Roll Back Driver.
    8. If Windows still finds no working driver, install the latest audio driver from the PC or motherboard manufacturer’s support site.

If the issue happens only through an HDMI or DisplayPort monitor, close and reopen the media file first, then confirm the monitor is not selected as the wrong output device.
