I recently purchased Microsoft office 2021 so that I could use it on my home computer without 365 subscription. I tried to use it today but it popped up that I had to get a 365 subscription to use. Is this fixable or do I need to request my money back? I just want to use it on my mac.

Thank you for your response. i didn't have the microsoft office apps on my computer. It looks like I have to purchase the 365 in order to use it. I just considered it a waste of money. So my bad but thanks for replying. I was looking forward to using Microsoft office again. I have deleted microsoft office off of my computer.

Yes, this is usually fixable on a Mac.

The most likely cause is that the Mac currently has the Mac App Store version of Office installed. On Mac, the App Store versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook require a Microsoft 365 subscription to activate. A one-time Office 2021 license is not compatible with Office apps downloaded from the Mac App Store. When that mismatch happens, Office can go into reduced functionality mode and show a message such as “Action Required: We've detected a one-time purchase license.”

What to do:

Remove the current Office apps from the Mac If the installed copy came from the Mac App Store, it needs to be removed.
Restart the Mac This is recommended before reinstalling.
Reinstall Office 2021 directly from Microsoft Sign in to the Microsoft account that is associated with the Office 2021 purchase, then reinstall from the Microsoft account services/subscriptions area rather than the Mac App Store.
