I have 2TB of subscription storage, but now I realized my Camera folder on my PC OneDrive is taking 638GB with 6303 files of my disk, but the same folder on Online OneDrive is taking 1.12TB of storage and 5533 files.

So online has fewer files, and they are taking almost double the storage. 600GB more !!!!!

So, I had to buy more storage, but I should have much more available storage.

If OneDrive online has fewer files in the Camera Roll folder than in the Camera Roll on your PC, you might not be syncing your PC's Pictures folder, which contains the Camera Roll folder, to OneDrive.

Go to Manage Backup on your PC and check whether your Pictures folder is enabled for backup. I suggest you toggle ON the PC Pictures folder. If you lack space on your PC, you can always use the Files On-Demand-Free up Space feature.

What is shown on the PC and what is shown in OneDrive online are not the same measurement.

    • The local OneDrive folder on Windows can contain synced copies for offline access.
    • OneDrive online shows the cloud storage used by the files stored in the account.
    • A file can exist as cloud-only or as a local synced copy, so local disk usage and cloud usage do not have to match.

For the local 638 GB on the PC:

    • OneDrive can sync files locally for faster and offline access.
    • To reduce local disk usage, in File Explorer right-click files or folders and select Free up space. This removes the local copy and keeps the file in OneDrive.
    • Files with a green checkmark are stored locally; files with a cloud icon are cloud-only.

For the online 1.12 TB usage:

    1. Open OneDrive on the web and review what is taking space. The recommended place to manage storage is the OneDrive web experience.
    2. Select Storage used in the lower-left corner.
    3. Review the largest files.
    4. Check the OneDrive Recycle bin and select Empty recycle bin if it contains unwanted items. Items in the Recycle Bin count toward the quota.
    5. Look for large videos, ZIP files, archives, screenshots, and camera roll items that are no longer needed.

    Important points:

    • Emptying the PC Recycle Bin is not the same as emptying the OneDrive Recycle bin online.
    • After deleting files or emptying the OneDrive Recycle Bin, storage updates can take up to 24 hours.
    • If additional storage was purchased, the new quota can take up to 24 hours to appear. If it still has not updated after 48 hours, contact support.
    • If a shared folder was added to the account, that can also push the account over quota.
    • If a subscription expired or renewal failed, the OneDrive quota can change.

If the concern is that the online Camera folder itself appears much larger than expected, the supported next step is to use Storage used / largest files / storage metrics in OneDrive on the web to identify exactly which items are consuming the space, then delete unneeded items and empty the online Recycle Bin.
