I need help with an Office Home & Student 2021 product key. The key came with my Lenovo laptop, but it was redeemed by another Microsoft account that I don't recognize. I have proof of purchase and screenshots showing the unauthorized redemption. I need the Office license investigated and recovered for my Microsoft account.

Hello @Gurpartap singh If Office Home & Student 2021 reports that the product key has already been redeemed, Microsoft states that the key has already been associated with a Microsoft account. After redemption, that Microsoft account effectively becomes the way Office is installed and activated; the key isn't normally redeemed again.

Since you don't recognize the account that redeemed it, this isn't something that can be corrected through normal activation troubleshooting.

Because the Office license came with your Lenovo laptop and you have proof of purchase, I recommend:

    • Check any Microsoft accounts you may previously have used and look under Services & subscriptions for Office Home & Student 2021.
    • If none of your accounts contain the license, contact Microsoft Support and explain that an OEM Office 2021 license supplied with the laptop appears to have been redeemed to an unknown Microsoft account.
    • Keep your Lenovo invoice, laptop serial number, Office purchase/license information, and screenshots of the redemption error available. Microsoft Support will need to determine what recovery options are available after validating the purchase.

I would also contact Lenovo if Microsoft determines that the bundled Office entitlement was already redeemed before the laptop was delivered to you.

For security, don't post the full 25-character product key, proof-of-purchase documents, or account details publicly in the Q&A thread.

Did you purchase the computer recently? I would suggest that you contact Lenovo, or the retailer, first of all. This may not be an option if the computer is no longer under warranty, of course.
