    Good day Carter,

To help me better understand the situation and assist you effectively, could you please share a few details such as:

1/ Do you currently have a Microsoft subscription? Examples: Microsoft Personal/Family or Microsoft Business Basic/Standard/Premium or E3/E5 subscription.

2/ Is the subscription a paid plan or a trial?

3/ Do you have any other Global administrators in your tenant?

This will help me better understand the context and provide more targeted support. Any additional information will help me better understand and support you.

In the meantime, please review the scenarios below to help clarify your concern:

    Situation 1: You're an end-user in organization

If your work account is managed by your organization's IT administrator, you cannot upgrade or purchase licenses yourself. You will need to contact your administrator and request the upgrade. In case you do not know who is your IT admin, kindly refer to this article: How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin? - Microsoft Support

If you need your own subscription, you can purchase a Microsoft 365 Personal subscription and use it with a personal Microsoft account.

Please note that work accounts and personal subscriptions cannot be used interchangeably.

Situation 2: You're the Global admin in organization

You can upgrade the subscription through the Microsoft 365 admin center:

Sign in your admin account to the Microsoft 365 admin center.

Go to Billing > Your products.

Select the subscription you want to upgrade.

Under Product details and upgrades, select View upgrades recommended for your organization.

Choose the desired plan and complete the purchase.

    After the upgrade:

Go to Users > Active users.

Open the user account you want to update.

    Select Licenses and apps.

Assign the new license and ensure the required services are enabled.

    Save the changes.

Additional information is available in the following resources:

Upgrade or change to a different Microsoft 365 for business plan | Microsoft Learn

Assign or unassign licenses for users in the Microsoft 365 admin center - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Learn

Situation 3: You don't have a business tenant yet

You can sign up for a Microsoft 365 Business subscription from the Microsoft 365 Business Plans and Pricing | Microsoft 365 and choose either a paid plan or a free trial.

Note: The free trial subscriptions are automatically converted to paid subscriptions once the trial period ends. If you don't want to continue with a paid subscription, please refer to the following document: Cancel your Microsoft business subscription in the Microsoft 365 admin center | Microsoft Learn

After completing the sign-up process, Microsoft will send an email to your personal email address containing your billing information and the Global administrator credentials for your business tenant.

To manage your subscription and tenant, you will need to sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center using the administrator account provided in that email.

I hope this information is helpful. Please provide more details regarding your concern so I can better assist you.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

If the Office license is tied to a work or school account, the installed apps already have the latest version available as long as Office is kept up to date.

For a work or school Microsoft 365 subscription:

    1. Open an Office app such as Word.
    2. Go to File > Account.
    3. Select Update Options > Update Now.
    4. If newer features still do not appear, the organization’s Microsoft 365 admin may be delaying feature rollout for testing with add-ins or other programs.

If the installed product is a one-time purchase version such as Office 2021 instead of a Microsoft 365 subscription, upgrading to a newer version requires purchasing the latest version.

If this is managed by work or school IT, contact the IT Help Desk for the organization’s upgrade plan.
