I have a laptop that includes Microsoft Office Home & Student, which was bought in 2021. A few months back, I had factory data reseted my laptop. Now I am unable to activate Microsoft 365. How can I do that?

    Hi,

If you have used this Microsoft license before, it is permanently tied to your Microsoft account. To reinstall Office on that laptop, log in to your Microsoft account here: https://account.microsoft.com/services

Note: If you cannot find the license on that account, it may be tied to a different Microsoft account. You will need to identify the specific account associated with the license to install and activate Office.

Once you identify the correct account, locate Microsoft Office and click Install.

This will download the Office installer. Run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions.

Once installed, open any Office app, such as Word or Excel, and sign in using the Microsoft account associated with the purchase to activate Office.

If Office Home & Student was already activated before the factory reset, reinstalling Office from the Microsoft account that owns the license is the supported way to restore activation.

    1. Go to the Microsoft account Services & subscriptions page and sign in with the same Microsoft account that was used to activate or redeem Office on that laptop.
    2. If Office Home & Student appears there, select Install and complete the installation.
    3. After installation, open an Office app such as Word and sign in with that same Microsoft account to activate it.

If Office was included with the PC and had not been activated before the reset, the license may not be recoverable through self-service. In that case, check whether the laptop purchase included Office Home & Student, and contact the PC manufacturer if needed.

If Office opens but shows Microsoft 365 or asks for a subscription, sign out of the wrong account and sign in with the Microsoft account that owns the Office Home & Student license.

If some Office apps are missing after the reset, reinstalling Office restores activation and the missing apps.

Microsoft also provides guided support for activation issues.
