The 5 GB limit is not just OneDrive. Microsoft now shares that 5 GB between OneDrive files/photos and Outlook.com email attachments, so Outlook attachments can fill the quota even when OneDrive only contains 100 MB.

First check the storage breakdown here: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2226904

If Outlook attachments are using the space, open Outlook.com > Settings > Account > Storage, then remove large emails with attachments, especially from Sent Items, and empty Deleted Items/Junk afterward. Microsoft explains this here:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/onedrive/what-is-microsoft-cloud-storage

After cleanup, allow up to 24 hours for the storage figure to refresh. If the dashboard itself still shows nearly 5 GB used with no corresponding files or email attachments, that would indicate an account-side quota reporting issue rather than a problem with New Outlook.

If OneDrive shows 5 GB used even though the files and Recycle Bin only total about 100 MB, check the storage breakdown first:

    1. Sign in to OneDrive on the web.
    2. Open Manage your OneDrive storage or select the Storage used link.
    3. Review the largest files list and confirm whether anything unexpected is counted.
    4. Make sure the OneDrive Recycle Bin is empty, because Recycle Bin items count toward storage.
    5. Check whether a shared folder added to OneDrive is contributing to the quota.
    6. If Outlook.com mailbox storage is full, that can also affect sending and receiving email.

    Important points:

    • OneDrive storage includes files, photos, and Recycle Bin items.
    • If the account is over quota, files become read-only and new uploads, edits, or sync stop.
    • If a storage change was recent, such as cleanup or a quota update, it can take some time for usage to reflect correctly.

If the storage page also shows only about 100 MB in use but the account still reports 5 GB used, use Contact Microsoft Support for a personal account.
