How do I ask Outlook missed email questions?

I'm currently trying to troubleshoot an issue where I stopped receiving email alerts about my health care portal to my outlook.com email. The portal settings haven't changed, outlook doesn't have the missing alerts in deleted or junk, so I'm trying to track back the problem to figure out where the issue is coming from. I did just change the contact email to a different non outlook address, so I'll be seeing if that fixes things or not.

    Hi Brendan O'Donnell

First, please kindly check the AI answer since it has covered the Outlook.com filters, folders, rules, forwarding, and safe senders thoroughly.

Since this only appears to affect notifications from the healthcare portal, changing the contact email was a good troubleshooting test.

If messages begin arriving at the new address, contact the portal’s support team and ask them to check their delivery logs for the original Outlook.com address. Specifically, ask whether the missing notifications were generated and whether their mail system received a rejection or delivery error. Outlook.com cannot recover or locate a message that never reached Microsoft’s mail servers.

You should also confirm that your Microsoft cloud storage is not full, as a full storage allocation can prevent Outlook.com from receiving new messages.

When contacting either support team, avoid posting your email address, healthcare details, or copies of private portal notifications publicly.

Hope this helps. Have a great day

For an Outlook.com missed-email issue like this, use a simple isolation path to determine whether the problem is Outlook.com, a mailbox setting, or the sender system.

    1. Check Outlook.com mailbox views and filters:
      • Check the Other tab.
      • Make sure the message list is sorted normally: Filter > Sort > Date.
      • Check whether any filters are hiding messages.
    2. Check mailbox folders and junk handling:
      • Review the Junk Email folder.
      • If a message is found there that should not be junk, right-click it and choose Mark as not junk.
    3. Check Outlook.com settings that can redirect or hide mail:
      • Verify that email forwarding is not enabled.
      • Check that there are no email rules moving or deleting the portal alerts.
      • Review Blocked senders and Safe senders under Settings > Mail > Junk email.
    4. Consider sender-address behavior:
      • If the portal sends from changing addresses, blocking or allow-listing one address may not be enough.
      • If mail from a blocked sender still appears, Microsoft notes the sender may be changing addresses or hiding the real address.
      • In that case, view the message headers on any similar message from that service to confirm the real sender address, then add that address to the blocked or allowed handling as needed.
      • An Inbox rule can also be used to match common words in those portal emails.
    5. Test whether the issue is sender-specific:
      • Since the contact email was changed to a non-Outlook address, that is a useful isolation step.
      • If alerts arrive at the new address but not at Outlook.com, the problem is likely related to Outlook.com filtering, rules, forwarding, or sender handling.
      • If alerts also fail at the new address, the issue is more likely with the health portal sending process.
    6. If only one specific message type is missing:
      • Ask the sender to review Sender Support in Outlook.com.
    7. If self-service checks do not help:
      • In Outlook.com, select Help on the menu bar, enter the issue, and if needed scroll to Still need help? and select Yes.
