Attempts to link my PC (win 11) using blue tooth failed. Is blue tooth necessary, if both android phone and PC are on the same WiFi network?

    Hi Claude Garon,

Thank you for your question. The AI Answer is correct that Bluetooth is required for the Phone Link calling feature and that Wi‑Fi alone is not sufficient.

To better understand what is happening with your Pixel 10, could you please clarify whether Phone Link is successfully connected and syncing notifications, messages or photos, but the Calls feature does not work or does the Bluetooth pairing between the Pixel 10 and your Windows 11 PC fail completely?

    If possible, please also share:

    • Your Windows 11 version and build (press Win + R, type winver and share the information shown).
    • Any error message you receive during Bluetooth pairing or when setting up Calls in Phone Link.
    • A screenshot of the Phone Link Calls page or the pairing error (with any personal information removed).

These details will help determine whether the issue is related to Bluetooth pairing, Phone Link configuration or compatibility on the PC.

I look forward to your update.

Yes. For Phone Link calling, Bluetooth is required on both the PC and the Android phone. Being on the same Wi‑Fi network is required for Phone Link setup and features, but Wi‑Fi alone does not enable the Calls feature.

    What to check:

    1. Confirm Bluetooth is turned on for both devices.
    2. On the PC, open Phone Link and use Calls.
    3. On the Android phone, make sure the Bluetooth pairing with the PC completes successfully.
    4. If calling still does not work:
      • On the PC, turn Focus assist off: right-click the Action Center icon on the taskbar > Focus Assist > Off.
      • Close and reopen Phone Link.
      • Restart the PC.
      • On the Android phone, turn Bluetooth off and back on from the notification panel.
      • Try connecting manually from the phone’s Bluetooth device list by selecting the PC and confirming the prompts on both devices.

If the phone was previously paired and calls still fail, remove the pairing on both sides and set up Calls again:

    • On Android: Settings > Connected devices > Connection preferences > Bluetooth > select the paired PC > Unpair.
    • On Windows: Start > Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices > select the Android device > Remove device.
    • Then reopen Phone Link and configure Calls again.

    Also note:

    • Phone Link calling uses Bluetooth for call handling.
    • Phone Link does not support relaying Android phone calls from the PC to a Bluetooth headset.
    • For best overall Phone Link compatibility, Android 10 or later is recommended, and both devices should be on the same Wi‑Fi network.
