Microsoft for Startups verification failed — no option to request manual review or contact support

I recently completed the business verification process for Microsoft for Startups and received the automated message:

“We couldn’t verify your startup. We’ll switch you to a pay-as-you-go subscription once your remaining Azure credits run out or expire.”

There was no explanation of what could not be verified and no option to provide additional documentation or request a manual review.

The startup is a newly formed U.S. LLC and can provide business registration documentation, an EIN, D-U-N-S registration, company domain ownership, and other supporting documentation if needed.

Microsoft documentation references a “Get program support” option under the Microsoft for Startups experience, but that option is not available in my portal. The general Azure Help + Support flow only directs me through self-help categories and documentation and does not provide a way to contact the Microsoft for Startups verification team.

How can I request a manual review of the business verification decision or open a support case with the Microsoft for Startups team?

I am intentionally not including company identifiers, subscription IDs, or other private information here because this is a public forum.

    Update / Resolution

I was able to resolve this by submitting a support request directly through the Azure Portal while signed in with the account associated with the startup.

I followed Microsoft's Azure support request workflow:

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/azure-portal/supportability/how-to-create-azure-support-request

Microsoft Support was able to route the request appropriately and successfully complete the startup verification.

Hopefully this helps anyone who encounters the same “We couldn’t verify your startup” message.

I am unable to raise even support tickets. It says I am on the basic plan and it is not letting me to create tickets for this purpose.

For a Microsoft for Startups verification or benefits issue, the supported path is to submit a Program Support request, not a general Azure technical support request.

Use one of these portal flows, depending on which experience is available:

    1. If the Azure Portal is the active Microsoft for Startups experience
      • Sign in to the Azure Portal.
      • In the Microsoft for Startups area, use the Program support button, or go to ? in the top-right corner.
      • Select Help + support.
      • Select Create a support request and complete the form.
      • Attach the verification failure screenshot and supporting business documents.
    2. If the Microsoft for Startups Portal is the active experience
      • Sign in to the Microsoft for Startups Portal.
      • Select the ? icon in the top-right corner.
      • Select Submit a Support Ticket.
      • Attach the verification failure screenshot and supporting documents.

What Program Support can help with includes:

    • Business or domain verification for application or level-up
    • Azure credit activation issues
    • Benefit redemption issues
    • Portal access problems
    • Entitlement and ownership corrections

If the general Azure Help + support flow is only showing self-help content, the correct target is still Microsoft for Startups Program Support for this type of issue, because verification and benefit-related issues are in scope for that team.

If the Program support or Submit a Support Ticket option is missing in the portal experience available to the account, use the Microsoft for Startups support entry point noted for program-specific support: https://aka.ms/startuphelp-mfs-portal.

    Include in the request:

    • The exact verification failure message
    • Screenshots of the portal error
    • Business registration documentation
    • Domain ownership proof
    • Any other documents that support the startup’s legal entity and verification status
