If this is a personal Microsoft email account, such as Outlook.com, Hotmail.com, Live.com, or MSN.com, unfortunately there is an important limitation.

Junk email in Outlook.com and Outlook on the web is retained for 30 days before it is automatically deleted. Recovery depends on where the message is now:

1. If the message is still in Junk Email
   • Open Junk Email.
   • Select the message.
   • On the ribbon, select Report > Not junk.
   • Confirm if prompted. This restores the message and marks the sender as not junk.
2. If the message was already removed from Junk Email
   • Open Deleted Items.
   • At the top of the message list, select Recover items deleted from this folder.
   • Select the messages to recover.
   • Select Restore.
3. Important limits
   • Email is automatically deleted from Deleted Items after 30 days.
   • Items removed from Deleted Items are recoverable for 30 days.
   • Junk email is retained for 30 days before automatic deletion.
   • If the deleted messages do not appear in Recover items deleted from this folder, they were probably permanently removed and cannot be recovered.
   • The Recoverable Items folder cannot be accessed from a mobile browser; use a PC or Mac.
4. To help prevent this in the future
   • Check the Junk Email folder regularly.
   • In Outlook, blocked senders and domains can be reviewed under Settings > Mail > Junk email.
   • If Outlook is also clearing Deleted Items on sign-out, go to Settings > Message handling and clear Empty my deleted items folder.
