    Try these steps in order:

    1. Check the output device
      • Go to Start > Settings > System > Sound.
      • Under Output, make sure the correct device is selected.
      • Make sure the volume is not muted and the slider is turned up.
    2. Set the playback device as default
      • Go to Start > Settings > System > Sound.
      • Select More sound settings.
      • Open the Playback tab.
      • Right-click the correct audio device and select Set as default.
    3. Turn off audio enhancements
      • Go to Start > Settings > System > Sound.
      • Under Output, select the audio device in use.
      • In Advanced settings, set Audio enhancements to Off.
      • If sound is distorted or still missing, turning off enhancements can help.
    4. Run the automated audio troubleshooter
      • In Windows 11, run the Audio troubleshooter in the Get Help app.
      • It automatically runs diagnostics and attempts to fix audio problems.
    5. Restart Windows audio services
      • Select Start, type services.msc, and press Enter.
      • Right-click Windows Audio, then select Restart.
      • Right-click Windows Audio Endpoint Builder, then select Restart.
      • Test the sound again.
    6. Update or reinstall the audio driver
      • Open Device Manager.
      • Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
      • Right-click the audio device and select Update driver.
      • Restart the PC.
      • If the issue continues, uninstall the audio driver and reinstall the latest version from the device manufacturer’s website.

If the problem started suddenly, the most common causes are the wrong output device being selected, audio enhancements interfering, or the audio driver not working correctly.
