I got married and my name changed. I updated my microsoft account details with my new name. I have 1 TB storage in my family subscription. I bought a new laptop and it won't recognise my microsoft details and wants me to create a new account but if I do that it will only give me 5GB of storage and also it won't let me transfer my current cloud backup of my entire old laptop to my new laptop

    Hi Robyne Browne

Changing your name after marriage should not affect your Microsoft account, OneDrive storage, or Microsoft 365 Family benefits. If you're being prompted to create a new account, make sure you're signing in with the same Microsoft account that holds your subscription and OneDrive data. Microsoft 365 Family provides 1 TB of OneDrive storage per user, while a new free account would only have 5 GB.

This is a public forum, so no one here can access your account, subscription, or OneDrive data. Please do not post your email address or other personal information.

    To contact Microsoft Support:

    1. Go to Microsoft Contact Support.
    2. Search for "agent support".
    3. Select Contact Support.
    4. Choose Microsoft 365 and Office or Microsoft Account, then Technical Support.
    5. Select Chat with a support agent in your web browser (if available).

When contacting support, explain that you recently changed your name after marriage, have an active Microsoft 365 Family subscription with 1 TB OneDrive storage, and need help accessing your existing OneDrive backup and account on a new laptop.
