You need to boot a PC from Windows installation media created as described at https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows11

Boot from this media but select Repair. Run command prompt, run net user Administrator /active:yes command.

Reboot PC and use this account to login and change your account password.

Do not forget to disable this account because it reduces Windows safety.

Administrator name may be needed to change according to Windows locale.

Recovery environment asks not for current Microsoft account password but for some old password, likely used during installation. So please try all old passwords you can recall.

If this is a brand-new laptop and there is no data on it yet, the most direct path is to reset the device and start setup again.

    1. On the sign-in screen, hold Shift and select Power > Restart.
    2. When Windows Recovery Environment opens, select Troubleshoot > Reset this PC.
    3. Select Remove everything.

This is destructive and removes all data on the device, but on a new laptop it clears the incorrect sign-in setup and returns the PC to the initial setup screen.

If the account is a Microsoft account and the password should work, use the account recovery flow instead:

    1. Open Recover your account: Recover your account
    2. Enter the email address, phone number, or Skype name used to sign in.
    3. Choose where to receive the security code.
    4. Enter the code.
    5. Set a new password.

    Also verify these common causes:

    • The email domain is correct, such as .com vs .co.uk.
    • The account name is typed correctly.
    • If the email is not recognized, try another alias or phone number on the account.

If the username is still not recognized after recovery attempts, use Contact support from this page: Contact support

Microsoft support cannot retrieve or bypass a lost or forgotten password, and support agents cannot send password reset links or change account details.
