Hi, I need help with a persistent email delivery issue on my Outlook.com/hotmail.co.uk account.

For weeks, clients emailing me from various providers (Gmail, Outlook, others) have been getting immediate delivery failures. The bounce references an address I've never owned or used: [redacted]@fotanet.com. Error returned: "554 5.4.0 <#5.4.311 smtp;550 5.4.311 DNS record is invalid or misconfigured [Message=InfoMxLoopback] [LastAttemptedServerName=fotanet.com]".

I've checked my account thoroughly: no forwarding enabled, no inbox rules, no extra aliases or usernames, nothing in Sent Items or Contacts referencing fotanet.com. Some of my own outgoing emails also aren't reaching recipients, with no bounce-back at all.

Since there's nothing further I can check from the account settings, could someone investigate why my mail is being routed via fotanet.com on your backend? Happy to provide the full bounce email with headers via private message if useful.

Thanks

Paste that in, and if there's a spot to attach a file, add that bounce email screenshot or forward too.

    Hi @kieran colbert

I’m sorry you’ve been experiencing this persistent email delivery problem.

The bounce message shows 5.4.311 InfoMxLoopback, which appears to indicate a DNS or mail-routing loop involving fotanet.com. Since you have already confirmed that there are no forwarding settings, inbox rules, aliases, contacts, or sent messages connected to this unfamiliar domain, this likely requires further investigation by Microsoft Support.

Please contact Microsoft Support and provide the complete bounce message, including the full headers and the Diagnostic information for administrators section. You may also include several affected sender addresses and the dates and times of the failed deliveries.

    • Go to Contact Us: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/contactus
    • Click Show expanded list of products
    • Select Outlook > Get Home support
    • Type Outlook live chat in the search box, then select Get Help > Contact Support
    • If you can’t sign in to the affected account, sign in with a different Microsoft account to access support options
    • Under Products & Services, select Other Products > Outlook, then choose Chat with a support agent via web browser
