How can I add an Excel attachment in Windows email without losing the character of the file e.g. the file needs to be downloaded by the recipient and it doesn't maintain the information as an excel file.

Attaching a file to an e-mail doesn't make the Excel file lose its contents, but if the sheet has connections to other sheets or files, the data from them will not be sent. Check the Excel sheet conenctions and formulas.
