Anybody have an idea about this, I have Hp j2050 in one printer. The problem I'm having is the printer prints a test page and let you scan a document and print it ok however when printing any other document the printer operates very slowly and prints a blank page. Thanks RWhp

    Hi, @reggie walker

Since the printer can print its own test page and can scan/copy normally, the printer itself may be working correctly. The issue could be with the Windows printer driver or print settings.

To help narrow down the issue:

    1. Is the HP DeskJet 2050 connected to the PC by USB?
    2. Does this happen when printing from every program, such as Notepad, Word, and a web browser?
    3. In Windows 11, go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners > your HP printer > "Printer properties" and select "Print Test Page." Does that Windows test page print correctly or come out blank?
    4. Did this problem start after a Windows update, or has the printer behaved this way since it was first connected to Windows 11?

Please also let me know the exact model shown on the printer, such as DeskJet 2050 J510a, J510c, or similar.

Since the printer can print a test page and can copy/scan-print correctly, the hardware is likely working. The problem is more likely with the Windows print path, app print settings, spooler, or driver.

    Try this in order:

    1. Check whether the issue is app-specific.
      • Print a simple file from Notepad or Paint.
      • Also try a different file from the same app.
      • If only Word, PDF, or one app fails, the issue is likely in that app rather than the printer itself.
    2. Make sure the correct printer is selected.
      • In the app, go to File > Print.
      • Confirm the HP J2050 is selected.
      • Make sure Print to PDF or Print to file is not selected.
      • Check page size, orientation, layout, and page range.
    3. Print a Windows test page from printer properties.
      • Go to Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
      • Select the printer, then Manage > Printer properties.
      • On the General tab, select Print Test Page.
      • If this works but app documents are blank, continue with the next steps.
    4. Remove and reinstall the printer.
      • Go to Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
      • Select the printer and choose Remove.
      • Then select Add device and let Windows search.
      • If it is not found, select Add manually.
      • For a locally connected printer, choose Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings.
      • Select Use an existing port and choose the correct USB port.
      • If prompted for a driver, use Windows Update or Have Disk if a driver disc is available.
      • After installation, print a test page.
    5. Install the latest printer driver.
      • If reinstalling alone does not help, install the latest driver for the printer and test again.
    6. Clear and reset the print spooler.
      • Warning: this clears pending print jobs.
      • In the taskbar search box, type services and open Services.
      • Double-click Print Spooler and select Stop.
      • In the taskbar search box, enter %WINDIR%\system32\spool\printers and delete all files in that folder.
      • Go back to Services, open Print Spooler again, select Start, set Startup type to Automatic, and select OK.
    7. If printing is still very slow, reduce print complexity.
      • Print a simple text document first.
      • For larger documents, simplify the file, compress images, or use draft/standard quality.
    8. Adjust advanced spooling settings if jobs remain slow.
      • Go to Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
      • Select the printer, then Printer Properties.
      • Open the Advanced tab.
      • Enable:
        • Spool print documents so program finishes printing faster
        • Start printing after last page is spooled
        • Print spooled documents first

If the printer prints test pages normally but regular documents still come out blank after these steps, focus on the driver reinstall and app-specific checks first.
