Yes. A supported Windows 10 device can be upgraded to Windows 11 for free, and Windows 11 supports edition upgrades including Pro for Workstation.
For a Windows 10 Pro for Workstations PC, use this path:
- Confirm the PC is eligible for Windows 11
- The device must be running a currently supported version of Windows 10.
- The device must meet the minimum hardware specifications for Windows 11.
- Check eligibility by either:
- running the PC Health Check app, or
- going to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and selecting Check for updates.
- Upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11
- If the device is eligible, Windows Update can offer the Windows 11 upgrade.
- Windows 10 version 2004 or later is the direct upgrade baseline via Windows Update.
- If Windows 11 installs as the wrong edition, change the edition to Pro for Workstation
- In Windows 11, go to Start > Settings > Activation.
- Open Upgrade your edition of Windows if that section appears.
- Next to Change product key, select Change.
- Enter a valid product key for Windows 11 Pro for Workstation.
- If the key is accepted, select Start or Activate to begin the edition upgrade.
- Supported edition path
- Windows 11 supports upgrading from Home or Pro to Pro for Workstation.
Important: if Windows 11 is installed by purchasing and downloading a full version onto a current PC, the installation can overwrite the existing hard drive contents and require reinstalling apps and moving files, data, and settings. That path is different from the normal free upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11.
