i have purchased several cables for my lap top. they work temporarily and then stop. now none of my charge cables are working.

plus it has a failure when I try to start the computer. I get past that by running sfc /scannow and chkdsk c: /f /r

It sounds like you have two separate issues.

What exactly was the error when you boot? The sfc and chkdsk commands shouldn't have anything to do with charging issue, since those commands addressed system integrity corruption issue and disk logical/physical error.

As for charging, you can follow what the AI suggested, but I would also recommend shutting the computer down completely and leaving it plugged in for a few hours.

If it still does not charge at all while the computer is completely powered off, that would strongly suggest the issue is not related to Windows or software, since neither is running at that point.

In that case, it is more likely a hardware issue, such as the charger or cable, charging port, battery, or an internal electrical problem. The computer would likely need to be inspected or repaired.

Since multiple chargers and cables only worked temporarily and now none work, focus on the charging path and hardware checks first.

    1. Try a different wall outlet.
    2. Make sure every cable connection is fully seated.
    3. If the charger is connected through a hub or dock, connect it directly to the laptop instead.
    4. If the laptop charges through USB-C, use the charger and cable that came with the device if available, and make sure it is plugged into the actual USB-C charging port.
    5. Clean the USB-C port with compressed air. Dust or dirt can prevent proper contact.
    6. If the laptop uses a Surface-style connector, inspect the connector and cable for damage. If there is visible damage to the charging port, power connector, or cord, service is needed.
    7. Disconnect accessories that use a lot of power and test charging again.

Common causes from Windows charging guidance:

    • The charger is not compatible.
    • The charger is not powerful enough.
    • The cable does not meet the laptop’s power requirements.
    • The charger is connected through a dock or hub.
    • Dirt in the port is preventing a proper connection.

If the battery icon shows charging with an exclamation mark, the laptop is receiving power but not enough to charge the battery. Using the power supply designed for the device is the recommended fix.

Because the laptop also has startup failures, do a restart-based reset:

    • If the PC can still get into Windows, restart it and check charging again.
    • If the PC becomes unresponsive, disconnect power, hold the power button for 30 seconds, wait, reconnect power, and try starting again.

If charging still fails after direct connection, port cleaning, outlet testing, and a restart, the problem is likely beyond the cable itself. At that point, service or repair is the supported next step.
