    Hi kerry buchecker,

I understand how frustrating this can be, especially when you're trying to complete important documents and the password field is not accepting any input. Based on your description, it would be helpful to first determine whether this is a sign-in prompt issue or an input/display issue within the application itself.

As a quick check, please try:

    1. Close the affected Microsoft application completely and reopen it.
    2. Try signing in to Microsoft account from a web browser to confirm the account itself is accessible.
    3. Let us know where the password prompt appears (Word, Excel, Outlook, OneDrive, Microsoft 365 activation, or elsewhere).

If possible, please share a screenshot of the prompt with any personal information removed. This can help identify whether the field is genuinely locked or if another window or setting is preventing input.

Hopefully we can narrow down the cause with a bit more information and get you back to your documents as quickly as possible. I look forward to your update.

If the password field is frozen or the account is blocked, use the account recovery and sign-in tools instead of trying to type into that box.

    1. Try resetting the account password at Recover your account.
      • Enter the email address, phone number, or Skype name used to sign in.
      • Choose where to receive the security code.
      • Enter the code, then create a new password.
    2. If the account is locked, sign in at Sign in to request a security code and unlock it.
      • Any phone number that can receive text messages can be used for the code.
      • A new password may be required after unlocking.
    3. If Outlook.com is temporarily blocked because of unusual sign-in activity, use Sign-in Helper.
    4. If the account still cannot be found or the sign-in process still fails, contact support using Contact support.
    5. If this is a local Windows account password issue on the PC sign-in screen, select the arrow next to the password field, then select OK > Reset password, and answer the security questions.

    Important:

    • Support agents cannot send password reset links or change account details.
    • If the message says the Microsoft account does not exist, use the sign-in helper.
