It appears that I have two Microsoft accounts.

On August 20, 2026, I paid for my subscription, or so I thought. Today, I received a notice from Microsoft saying I haven't paid for my subscription. I have a document from my bank showing I did. The only thing I can think of is that I have two accounts. I only need one account. Can you merge the two accounts into the account I'm currently using? Hi, @Ellington Brown

To help narrow down the issue:

    1. Are you seeing this message on a Windows PC or a Mac?
    2. When you sign in to your Microsoft account at https://account.microsoft.com/services does the subscription show as active there, or still unpaid?

If you haven't tried anything yet (Windows):

    • Make sure you're signed in with the same Microsoft account that the subscription is linked to.
    • Then, open any Office app (like Word or Excel), go to File > Account, and click "Update License" to refresh your subscription status.

    If you're using Mac (MacOS):

    • Open any Microsoft 365 app such as Word. > At the top of the screen, select Word (or the app name) in the menu bar. > Select About Word. > Click More Info… > Select "Refresh License".
    • After that, close any open documents and completely restart all Microsoft 365 apps so the license refresh can take effect.

If the issue persists, please provide more details by answering my questions.

Click "Add comment" to let me know.

    Thanks!

    Hello @Ellington Brown

It sounds possible you have two separate Microsoft accounts, but before making any changes, I would first confirm which account received the Microsoft 365 payment you made on August 20.

Microsoft personal accounts cannot be merged or combined. You also can't normally transfer purchases, subscriptions, account balances, or other account-specific information from one Microsoft account to another.

Since you have proof that your bank was charged, I suggest signing into each Microsoft account separately and checking:

Payment & billing → Order history

Look for the August 20 transaction and confirm whether its status is Completed, Redeemed, or something else. Microsoft recommends checking Order History when you have multiple accounts because the purchase may be linked to a different Microsoft account.

    Then check:

    Services & subscriptions

The Microsoft 365 subscription should appear under the Microsoft account used to purchase it. If you don't see the subscription, sign out completely and repeat the check using the other account.

One important point: don't purchase Microsoft 365 again yet. First, determine what the August 20 bank transaction was applied to. Otherwise, you could potentially end up paying twice while the original payment issue remains unresolved.

If you confirm that the payment was taken under one Microsoft account but you're using Microsoft 365 under another, Microsoft documents that an existing Microsoft 365 subscription cannot be transferred from one Microsoft account to another.

At that point, I'd contact Microsoft Support and provide the August 20 order/payment information so they can investigate the billing transaction and determine the appropriate option. Please provide your order number, payment information, email addresses, or the bank document privately to Microsoft Support, not in this public Q&A thread.

    Contact Microsoft Support

    Sharing these references with you:

    Microsoft – Combining Microsoft accounts

Microsoft – View your Microsoft Store order history

Microsoft – Transfer a Microsoft 365 subscription to another account

So the immediate goal isn't to merge the accounts. Microsoft doesn't provide that capability. The goal is to identify which account owns the August 20 purchase and why Microsoft is still reporting the subscription as unpaid. Once that's established, Microsoft Billing Support can address the payment/subscription discrepancy.
