Microsoft for Startups – Unable to create Azure account and therefore unable to contact Program Support

I am trying to apply for Microsoft for Startups but am unable to get far enough through the onboarding process to submit the startup application.

I have created a new personal Microsoft account specifically for Microsoft for Startups. The account has never previously been used for Azure and has never received Microsoft for Startups or Azure credits.

I can sign in to Microsoft for Startups successfully. However, when I select "Set up your Azure account", Azure account creation fails.

I am receiving the following error:

I have also encountered the message:

"This account can't be used for Microsoft for Startups credits. Sign in with an eligible Microsoft account to access this offer."

The problem is that I cannot submit a Microsoft for Startups Program Support request because Microsoft's support process requires access through the Azure Portal. I cannot establish the required Azure account because Azure account creation is the issue I need support with.

I therefore appear to be stuck in a circular onboarding problem:

Microsoft for Startups → Azure account required → Azure account creation fails → Program Support requires Azure Portal access → unable to contact Program Support.

Could a Microsoft representative please escalate this to the Microsoft for Startups onboarding/program support team and check whether my personal Microsoft account is correctly provisioned and eligible for the Microsoft for Startups Azure onboarding flow?

I do not want to create further Microsoft accounts or an ordinary Azure subscription, as I want to ensure the Azure account is established correctly through Microsoft for Startups.

My startup is a privately held B2B software business. We have developed a proprietary technology platform for veterinary practices, including online bookings, online patient registration, an AI receptionist, business insights and marketing automation. The technology has already been developed and we are preparing to expand the platform into the UK market.

I can provide screenshots of both errors and any further account information required.

Thank you.

I am getting this message as soon as I login to the Azure portal so I am unable to navigate to Startup Support.

The supported path for this scenario is to use Microsoft for Startups support for onboarding and Azure credit activation issues, and Azure Support for Azure account or technical issues.

Supported facts for the current situation:

    1. Microsoft for Startups Program Support covers:
      • application review and approval status
      • Azure credit activation issues
      • benefit redemption issues
      • entitlement and ownership corrections
      • portal access problems
    2. Azure account or technical issues should be submitted through the Azure Portal once the account is set up.
    3. If the issue is specifically with Microsoft for Startups onboarding, benefits, or portal access, the documented support entry point is:
      • Azure portal → startup homepage → Overview → Your Microsoft Team → Get program support
    4. For startups that use the Microsoft for Startups Portal experience, support can also be submitted by:
      • signing in to the Microsoft for Startups Portal
      • selecting the ? icon in the top-right corner
      • selecting Submit a Support Ticket
      • attaching screenshots or relevant error details
    5. If the account shows "This account can't be used for Microsoft for Startups credits", the documented guidance is to verify eligibility status in the Microsoft for Startups portal and create a Microsoft for Startups support request if eligibility cannot be verified.

Because the blocker is occurring before Azure account setup completes, the most relevant documented action is to submit a support ticket from the Microsoft for Startups Portal rather than relying on the Azure Portal path.

Include these details in the ticket:

    • the Azure account setup failure
    • the full AADSTS50058 error text
    • the "This account can't be used for Microsoft for Startups credits" message
    • screenshots of both errors
    • confirmation that the account is a new personal Microsoft account intended for Microsoft for Startups onboarding
