As recommended by the AI-generated reply, you should perform an Online Repair instead of relying on Repair Now.

Before you begin, make sure that you can access your account at https://account.microsoft.com/services and that Office is associated with it, so that you can reinstall Office after the Online Repair.

The steps to start the repair are discussed in the support article at https://support.microsoft.com/en-US/Office/lifecycle/repair-an-office-application .

Since Repair Now does nothing, use an Office repair from Windows Settings/Control Panel instead.

    1. Close all Office apps.
    2. Open the Office repair tool:
      • Windows 11: Start > Installed apps > select Microsoft 365 or Office > ... > Modify
      • Windows 10: right-click Start > Apps and Features > select Microsoft 365 or Office > Modify
      • Or open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features > select the Office product > Change
    3. Run a repair:
      • Click-to-Run: select Online Repair > Repair. This is the more complete repair. Risk: it can reinstall Office, so a restart may be required afterward.
      • MSI-based: select Repair > Continue.
    4. Follow the on-screen steps and restart the computer if prompted.

If Word still does not start after repair, check whether an add-in is causing the crash:

    1. In the Office app add-in settings, uncheck add-ins one by one.
    2. If there is another add-in type in Manage such as COM Add-ins, repeat the same process there.
    3. If all add-ins are unchecked and Word still will not open, the issue is not related to add-ins.

Also make sure Windows is fully updated, because older device drivers can be incompatible with Office:

    • Windows 11: Start > search settings > Windows Update > Check for updates
    • Windows 10: Settings > Update & security > Windows Update > Check online for updates from Microsoft Update
