A family of Microsoft word processing software products for creating web, email, and print documents.
Hi, Robert Parker
On a Chromebook, Word files open through Word for the web rather than a locally installed desktop app. Since Excel files still open, the blank page is more likely related to the browser, an extension, or cached Microsoft sign-in data than to OneDrive itself.
Here are some suggestions you can try:
Update Chrome and restart the Chromebook.
Open an Incognito window, sign in at Microsoft 365 on the web, select OneDrive, and try opening a Word document there. If it works, an extension or stored browser data is probably interfering.
In Chrome, clear cookies and cached files for office.com, microsoft365.com, live.com, and onedrive.live.com, then sign in again.
Temporarily disable ad blockers, privacy extensions, and pop-up blockers, or allow third-party cookies for Microsoft sites.
Try both an existing document and a new blank Word document. If only certain files fail, download one and open it with Google Docs to check whether the document itself is damaged.
If all Word files remain blank, try the same Microsoft account in another browser or Chromebook profile. It is also recommended that you check whether the Chromebook is managed by a school or employer, as its browser policies may block part of Word for the web.
Word, Excel, OneDrive, and the other Microsoft 365 apps are supported on Chromebooks through the web browser.
