I received an email from Microsoft that after 10/2026 Publisher will no longer be supported. I use Word, Excel, and Powerpoint are there programs going to be impacted by Publisher not being supported?

This does not affect Word, Excel, or PowerPoint. Those applications will continue to be supported normally.

The main concern is whether you have any Publisher files. Publisher files normally have a .pub extension. You can check your computer by opening File Explorer and selecting This PC. In the search box, type *.pub and press Enter. Windows will search your drives for Publisher files.

You can also search specifically in your Documents folder first. If you find .pub files, they should be converted to another format before Publisher is retired. If you don't find any, you likely don't have Publisher documents to worry about.

No. If Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are the apps being used, those are not affected by Publisher being retired.

The change is specific to Microsoft Publisher:

    • Publisher for Microsoft 365 will no longer be supported after October 2026.
    • Microsoft 365 subscribers will no longer be able to access Publisher after October 1, 2026.
    • If Publisher is not being used, no action is needed for Word, Excel, or PowerPoint.

If there are any existing .pub Publisher files, convert them before October 1, 2026 so they can still be viewed or edited later. Microsoft recommends saving them as PDF for viewing, or converting PDF to Word if editing is needed.
