Hello,

I recently bought a perpetual license for Office 2024 (Family Edition).I downloaded the app from Microsoft on my Windows 11 PC. I signed in with the Microsoft account that was used to buy the license in order to activate the product.

However, in the " account " tab (on the bottom left of any Office app), under Product information, there was a message stating that the product still needed activation and that " We're trying to activate Office but you can keep using it ".

I contacted support and I've been told that there was a problem on MS side today that multiple people encountered. My license was indeed valid, but I just had to wait and my product would eventually be activated.

A few hours later, I started an office app again, and checked under Product information.I don't have a message stating that the product must be activated anymore, but I also don't have any message explaining that the product is activated.

There is only :

" Product informations "

" Office "

" Microsoft Office Family 2024 "

" This product contains... " followed by app icons and a bunch of options.

In Office 2019, there was a text indicating " Product activated for <MS account> " under product information. If this not the case anymore ? Is my product correctly activated ?I found another topic from 2024 about someone with the same problem ( https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/5372221/office-home-2024-activation ) but there was no definitive answer.I can create new Word, Office, and Powerpoint documents and edit them though. So... Is my Office product activated ?

Have a nice day,

Atuvu.

Hello, thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

Based on your statement, it seems that the Office apps have now been activated on your device.

I do have the license for Office Home and Business 2024, and it doesn't show the "Product Activated" message.

However, there appears to be some confusion with the product description you mentioned. It should say either “Office Home 2024” or “Microsoft 365 Family subscription.” There is no “Office 2024 Family edition.”

Under the Product Information section, does it show “Office Family 2024”?

Also, when you sign in to the Services & subscriptions page with your Microsoft account, do you see the same product listed?

    https://account.microsoft.com/services

It should either say "Office Home 2024," or if you have an Office 365, it should be listed as 'Office 365 Family'.

Yes — based on the described behavior, Office is activated.

Supported signs from the product behavior:

    1. If an Office app opens and no activation warning appears, that indicates the app is activated.
    2. If Office is not activated, editing is limited. Since new Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files can be created and edited, that is a strong sign activation completed.
    3. For Office 2024, the reliable place to confirm entitlement is the Microsoft account Services & subscriptions page. If Microsoft Office Family 2024 appears there under the purchased products/subscriptions area, the license is associated with the Microsoft account.
    4. In Office apps, the Account page can show the product name under Product information without repeating the older-style wording such as “Product activated for …”.

    A practical way to verify:

    1. Open Word, Excel, or PowerPoint.
    2. Go to File > Account.
    3. Under Product information, confirm it shows Microsoft Office Family 2024 and that the earlier activation message is gone.
    4. Sign in to Services & subscriptions at https://account.microsoft.com/services and confirm the Office 2024 purchase is listed.

If Office opens normally, allows editing, and no longer shows the activation-needed message, that indicates activation succeeded.
