Events not showing on Calendar

I created an Outlook calendar to be shared with internal and external people. I have been creating invites on that calendar and listing myself as a mandatory member of the event. Even though I added myself to the event it is still not showing on my calendar. I know that I can select the box to have this calendar's events appear but I am needing it to show on my primary calendar. Part of the reasoning behind that is so that I can pull and text the calendar invite quickly since the Outlook calendar on the iPhone won't show anything but the primary calendar but also to make sure that time spot is blocked. Any ideas would be appreciated, thank you!

    Hi Kayla,

I hope you're doing well today.

This behavior happens because each calendar in New Outlook functions as a completely separate container, and therefore, an event is stored only inside the calendar where it was originally created, which explains why your primary calendar stays empty even when you invite yourself. In addition, only your primary calendar contributes to your availability, so an appointment that lives on a secondary calendar will neither appear in your main view nor mark your time as Busy, and this is the standard behavior of the calendar platform rather than a defect on your account

With that in mind, below are some workarounds that suit the situation:

OPTION 1: Create the invitation from your primary calendar and add the shared calendar as an attendee

    • Open Calendar in New Outlook, then in the left pane select your primary calendar so it becomes the active one.
    • Select New event.
    • At the top of the event window, confirm the "Save to" field displays your primary calendar. If it displays the shared calendar, select the drop-down and change it.
    • In the "Invite attendees" field, enter the email address of the shared calendar first, then add your internal and external guests.
    • Fill in the subject, time, and location, then select Send.

Therefore, the master copy now lives on your primary calendar, so the time is blocked and the invitation syncs to Outlook on your iPhone immediately, while the shared calendar receives its own copy that every internal and external member can still view.

OPTION 2: Display the shared calendar directly inside Outlook for iOS

    • On your desktop, right-click the shared calendar in New Outlook, select "Sharing and permissions," and confirm your own account is listed with at least "Can view all details." Mobile only renders a calendar that is formally shared to your account.
    • Open the Outlook app on the iPhone and tap the Calendar icon at the bottom.
    • Tap your profile picture at the top left corner, then tap the calendar icon next to your account name.
    • Locate the shared calendar in the list and tap the toggle so it turns blue.
    • Return to the calendar view and confirm that the events now render in your agenda and day views.

The invitations become visible and forwardable from your phone in seconds, so you can text the details to anyone without opening a laptop.

Alternatively, as a user-to-user support forum, I hope you understand that I do not have the ability to modify or escalate product issues directly. The "New Outlook" is still very much a work in progress, and Microsoft frequently restores legacy behavior based on user feedback. However, I strongly recommend submitting your feedback through the Outlook (new) · Community. This is the most effective way to ensure that your voice reaches the product team and can be considered regarding how events created on a secondary or shared calendar are reflected on the primary calendar, with potential enhancements being evaluated for future updates.

You've clearly identified a real-world challenge, and your suggestion reflects a deep understanding of user needs - feedback like yours is truly valuable and helps shape the future of Microsoft Teams.
