Hi. I'm David, and I'm happy to help you.

To be able to assist you better, please clarify the following:

Does your headset have 2 jack connectors (P2, two black or white lines), a single jack connector (P3, three black or white lines), a USB connector, or is it connected via Bluetooth?

Also, share a screenshot of your system information.

    • Press "Windows + R", type msinfo32 and press Enter.

Maximize the window and use the shortcut "Windows + Shift + S" to use the screenshot tool.

    Looking forward to your reply.

If the microphone shows Not plugged in and Set default is unavailable, Windows is not currently detecting that mic as an active input device. For a Windows 10 headset mic, use this order:

    1. Check the headset connection
      • Make sure the headset plug is fully inserted.
      • If the PC has separate headphone and microphone jacks, make sure the mic is connected to the microphone jack, not only the headphone jack.
      • If it is a USB or Bluetooth headset, reconnect it and confirm it is paired/connected.
      • If the headset has a mute button, make sure mute is off.
    2. Make sure microphone access is enabled
      • Go to Start > Settings > Privacy > Microphone.
      • Under Allow access to the microphone on this device, select Change and turn it On.
      • Turn on app microphone access as well.
    3. Set the input device in Sound settings
      • Go to Start > Settings > System > Sound.
      • Under Input, check Choose your input device and select the headset microphone if it appears.
      • Speak into the mic and check Test your microphone. If the bar moves, Windows is hearing it.
    4. If it still says not plugged in, reinstall the audio driver
      • Warning: this temporarily removes audio devices until Windows reinstalls them.
      • Right-click Start > Device Manager.
      • Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
      • Right-click the audio device and select Uninstall device.
      • If shown, check Delete the driver software for this device or Attempt to remove the driver for this device, then select Uninstall.
      • Restart the PC.
      • After restart, Windows should reinstall the audio device automatically.
      • If it does not, open Device Manager, right-click Sound, video and game controllers, and select Scan for hardware changes.
      • Then right-click the audio driver and select Update driver.
    5. Run the audio troubleshooter
      • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters.
      • Select Recording Audio.

The reason Set default cannot be selected is that Windows only allows a device to be set as default when it is detected as an available recording device.
