I just retired and have lost access to IT service. How do I delete the user account on my authenticator app that the university had set up for me?

    Hi steve kostelnik

To remove the university account from Microsoft Authenticator, you can refer to the steps provided in the AI-generated answer below, which outline the necessary steps:

    -Open Microsoft Authenticator.

    -Select the university account.

    -Tap the Settings gear.

    -Tap Remove account.

Additionally, I would like to provide the following screenshots for your reference:

Please note that after removing the account, you will no longer be able to use your device to verify sign-in for that account.

    I hope this helps.

To remove that university account from Microsoft Authenticator:

    1. Open Microsoft Authenticator.
    2. Select the university account.
    3. Tap the Settings gear.
    4. Tap Remove account.

    Important:

    • After removing the account, that device can no longer be used to verify sign-in for that account.
    • If the account is managed by the university and there are issues removing it or access is already lost, the organization’s IT administrator may need to reset or revoke the MFA registration.

If the app still shows the account and it cannot be removed normally, the documented way to remove all accounts is to clear the app’s data:

    • Android: Settings > Apps > Authenticator > Storage or Storage & cache > Clear data > OK
    • iOS: Settings > General > Storage > Authenticator > Offload App

Warning: removing all accounts or clearing app data has no undo. All accounts will be removed, and the device will no longer be usable for sign-in verification.
