Using classic Outlook for Windows in business environments
Hi @Singardo S,
Office LTSC Standard 2024 includes the classic Outlook desktop application, but it does not include an email account or Exchange Online mailbox. Outlook must therefore be configured with an existing Microsoft 365, Exchange, Outlook.com, POP, or IMAP account.
A prompt mentioning Microsoft 365 does not necessarily mean that Office LTSC needs to be replaced. To confirm your installation, please go to File > Office Account > Product Information and verify that Office LTSC Standard 2024 is installed and activated.
Regarding the issue where Outlook sends and receives messages intermittently, first check the status bar at the bottom of Outlook. If it shows Working Offline, Disconnected, or Trying to connect, Outlook is not maintaining a stable connection to the mail server.
To help narrow down the cause, please try the following:
- Sign in to your mailbox through its webmail service and check whether you can send and receive messages there.
- In Outlook, go to Send/Receive > Work Offline and make sure Work Offline is disabled.
- Navigate to File > Account Settings > Account Settings and confirm the account type that is configured.
- If it is a third-party POP or IMAP account, verify the incoming and outgoing server settings, port numbers, encryption method, authentication requirements, and whether your provider requires an app password.
- If the issue persists, create a new Outlook profile, add the account to the new profile, and test whether the behavior continues.
As for your missing Outlook data file, the folder below commonly contains Outlook data files:
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook
However, newer PST files are often stored in:
C:\Users\<username>\Documents\Outlook Files
Since neither the PST nor OST file appears to be present in the location you checked, I recommend performing a Windows search across all drives for:
*.pst
If you locate the PST file, I recommend making a backup copy before doing anything else. There is generally no need to convert the PST to EML format. Instead, you can open it directly in classic Outlook through: File > Open & Export > Open Outlook Data File. This will attach the PST to Outlook without modifying or removing any of its contents.
If no PST file can be found, it may have been moved to another location, deleted, stored on another drive, saved under a different Windows user profile, or the previous account may have been using an OST file instead. For that reason, I would strongly recommend not deleting or overwriting the old Windows profile until the required data has been located or recovered.
Regarding support, for the send/receive issue, please contact your organization’s Microsoft 365 or Exchange administrator, or your email provider if this is a POP or IMAP account. If the organization has an eligible Microsoft 365 business subscription, an administrator can also open a support request through Microsoft 365 admin center > Help & support.
If Office LTSC was purchased through a Microsoft partner, reseller, or CSP, you should also contact that organization directly, as they are often responsible for providing licensing and installation-related support.
I hope I was able to provide some useful information and suggestions to help move things forward.
Thank you for taking the time to review my response, and I wish you the very best in resolving the issue.
