I have a problem so need to get my locker recovery key, but I didn’t change my old phone number on my Microsoft account after I changed it. It says I can’t access it for another one month.

The problem is that I need to wait a month and then I can access the recovery key and then I can log into my Windows. How do I do this fast faster and how can I change my old phone number that I no longer have my new phone number

This 30-day delay is intentional. It’s a security safeguard designed to protect users in case someone else tries to hijack their account by changing recovery info. The wait gives the rightful owner time to notice and stop unauthorized changes.

Unfortunately, this policy cannot be bypassed. Microsoft explains it further here.

If all security info on the Microsoft account was replaced, the account enters a restricted state for 30 days. That wait cannot be sped up or bypassed.

To change the phone number when the old one is no longer available:

    1. Start signing in to the Microsoft account.
    2. At the Verify your identity prompt, select I don't have any of these.
    3. Follow the prompts to replace the security info with the new phone number or another verification method.
    4. After all security info has been replaced, wait 30 days before sign-in is allowed again.

If access still exists to some security info:

    1. Go to the Advanced security options page and sign in.
    2. Select Add a new way to sign in or verify.
    3. Add the new phone number or email, then enter the code sent to it.
    4. Remove the old phone number from the security info list.

    Important:

    • Do not change all security info at the same time unless necessary, because that can trigger the 30-day restriction.
    • If the old security info becomes available during the 30 days, it can still be used to sign in, but doing that cancels the pending update.
    • If the account is a work or school account, contact the IT admin instead.
    • For sign-in problems, use the Sign-in Helper.
