Dear Microsoft Support,

I am requesting technical escalation for my primary Outlook account. I have an open support case under Case Number: <PII removed>, but I was directed to post my detailed situation here to secure the correct assistance path.

1. The Root Cause of the Lockout
I recently had to factory-reset my mobile phone. This action erased all local data on my Microsoft Authenticator app. Because I cannot log into my primary Outlook account, I cannot generate a new QR code to sync the app back up to my email. I am caught in a loop where the system requires the app to log in, but I need to log in to set up the app.

2. Two-Step Verification (2FA) Breakdown
My account has strict 2FA enabled, which requires two separate forms of identification:

  • Step 1 (Verification Success): I have successfully verified my account via my registered mobile phone number. I receive and input the text code perfectly.
  • Step 2 (Verification Failure): I do not recall the secondary verification email address required for this stage, meaning I cannot receive the second security code.

3. Standard Troubleshooting Already Attempted & Exhausted

  • The ACSR Form (live.com): I am aware of the standard Automated Customer Service Rep (ACSR) form. However, per official Microsoft policy, the ACSR form automatically rejects or ignores submissions for accounts where 2FA is actively turned on. Running through this tool will not resolve my issue.
  • Authenticator Cloud Backup: I did not have an active cloud backup configured for my Authenticator app prior to formatting my mobile device, meaning the token data cannot be restored.

4. Requested Assistance
Since I can successfully authenticate via my personal mobile phone number, I need a Microsoft account specialist to review my existing case (<PII removed>). Please guide me through an alternative identity verification process. I would like to have access to my account promptly if possible and avoid the standard 30-day reset of details.

Thank you for your time and assistance.

    Hello jamie longmuir,

I understand that you can verify the first step by phone, but you are then blocked because the Authenticator registration was removed during the factory reset and the secondary email is unavailable.

Please note that this is a user-to-user forum, so contributors cannot access accounts, review support cases, or reset security information.

Because two-step verification is enabled, the recovery form cannot bypass the missing second verification method. Support agents are also not permitted to send verification codes or manually change an account’s security details. This restriction is explained in Help with the Microsoft account recovery form.

Since you already have an open case, contact support again and provide the case number so an agent can review its current status:

1, Visit the Microsoft Support contact page: Contact - Microsoft Support

2, In the search bar provided on the page, type "Account recovery" and press Enter.

3, Click on the "Get Help" button that appears.

4, Scroll down the page until you see and click on the "Contact Support" option.

5, When prompted to select your product or service, choose "Other Products".

6, For the category, choose "Manage account security".

7, Look for and click on "Chat with a support agent in your web browser".

8, Confirm your personal email when prompted - this is the email Microsoft will use to communicate with you during and after the support session.

9, When connected, clearly explain your situation. Be concise but include all relevant details.

I hope the support agent can confirm whether any valid verification method remains available for the account.
