Having difficulty moving from classic outlook to the new outlook. My classic outlook does not show the Try the new outlook toggle. Not sure what to do.

In classic Outlook, please go to File > Office Account > About Outlook and let me know the product shown under Product Information and the Version/Build number. Microsoft states that the Try the new Outlook toggle requires Outlook for Microsoft 365 Version 2303 (Build 16227.20318) or later. If you have Microsoft 365 but an older build, go to File > Office Account > Update Options > Update Now and check again after Outlook restarts.

Also, if you have a one-time-purchase version such as Office Home & Business rather than Microsoft 365, the missing toggle is expected. You can still install the new Outlook for Windows directly from the Microsoft Store and keep classic Outlook installed. One correction to the previous answer is that POP accounts are now supported in new Outlook, so the presence of a POP account by itself should not be considered a reason.

If the Try the new Outlook toggle is missing in classic Outlook, use this checklist:

    1. Confirm the Outlook edition is supported
      • The toggle doesn’t appear for non-subscription versions such as Outlook 2021 or Outlook 2019.
      • It is supported for Outlook for Microsoft 365.
    2. Confirm Windows meets the minimum requirement
      • New Outlook for Windows requires Windows 10 version 1809 (Build 17763) or later.
    3. Check whether the account in the classic Outlook profile is supported
      • The toggle might not appear if the profile includes unsupported accounts, such as POP or on-premises Exchange accounts.
      • It can also be hidden if the account being used isn’t supported in new Outlook.
    4. Check whether the toggle was hidden by policy or registry
      • In classic Outlook, the toggle visibility is controlled by this registry value: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Options\General\HideNewOutlookToggle
      • If HideNewOutlookToggle is set to 1, the toggle is hidden.
      • Changing it to 0 and restarting classic Outlook makes the toggle visible.
      • Warning: Editing the registry can cause system or app issues if done incorrectly.
    5. If managed by an organization, check admin policy
      • The Hide the "Try the new Outlook" toggle in Outlook policy in the Microsoft 365 Apps admin center can hide the toggle.
    6. Open new Outlook directly instead of relying on the toggle
      • New Outlook is available through the classic Outlook in-app toggle and the Windows app store.
      • It can also appear as a separate app in the Start menu. If present, opening that app starts new Outlook directly.
    7. If none of the above applies
      • If new Outlook launches successfully for another user on the same system, sign in on that system with the affected account and check whether the toggle appears.
      • For Microsoft Support, include the .etl files from %Temp%\Outlook Logging.
