Hello,

I' d like to merge two separate accounts - personal account and work account in order to be able to move my certifications with me if I change companies (as is describe here: PII removed by Moderator).

I've tried more times but there was always an error while merging the accounts. Prolem is merging account from source profile (personal account) into the destination profile (work account).

Could you please advise?

Thank you

    Hello @Anonymous

For Microsoft certifications, you don't merge the personal Microsoft account and work account. Instead, you merge/link the Microsoft Learn profiles associated with those sign-ins.

In your case, I would recommend keeping the personal Microsoft account as the long-term login for your Learn profile. Microsoft recommends keeping a personal account associated with the profile so you retain access to your learning history and credentials if you change employers or lose access to your work account.

    To merge the profiles:

    1. Sign in to the Microsoft Learn profile you want to keep, preferably using your personal Microsoft account.
    2. Select your profile icon → Settings.
    3. Under Account Management, select Add login account.
    4. Sign in with your work/school account.
    5. If that work account is already associated with another Learn profile, Microsoft Learn should automatically trigger a Profile Merge.
    6. After the merge, check Credentials and Transcript to confirm that your certifications are present.

Microsoft confirms that a profile merge combines the learning progress, credentials, certifications, and transcripts from both profiles. You can continue signing in using the linked login accounts afterward. You can't undo the merge.

Two important restrictions apply: a merged Learn profile can include only one personal Microsoft login account and up to five work or school accounts. If either limit would be exceeded, the merge is canceled.

Since you mentioned you've already attempted the merge and received an error, I would first check under Settings → Account Management whether either profile already contains another personal Microsoft account or multiple organizational accounts. That can explain why the merge isn't completing.

Also, I wouldn't recommend making your work account the only account holding your certifications. If you leave the company and the organization disables that account, Microsoft warns that it may be unable to recover the learning and credential data associated with a Learn profile that only has that work account.

If the account limits are satisfied but the merge still fails, please share the exact merge error message (with email addresses and personal information removed). That should help determine whether this is an account-type conflict or another Learn profile issue.

The main goal should be: one Learn profile containing the certifications, with the personal Microsoft account retained as a login, so the credentials remain accessible even after changing employers.
