    Hi, @CherylRoy-8431

If the file shows a cloud icon, it is stored online only. Download it first:

    • Open File Explorer > OneDrive.
    • Find the Word document.
    • Right-click it and select "Always keep on this device."
    • Wait until the icon changes to a green check mark.
    • Then copy or drag the document to a local folder under "This PC," such as Documents.

To help narrow down the issue:

    1. Are you moving the document from OneDrive in File Explorer or from OneDrive.com?
    2. What happens when you try to move it? Do you receive an error message?
    3. Which folder under "This PC" are you trying to move it to?

Click "Add comment" to let me know.

    Thanks!

If the document is in OneDrive and not staying on the PC, download it to the PC first, then move it out of the OneDrive folder.

    1. Open File Explorer and open the OneDrive folder.
    2. Find the Word document.
    3. Right-click the document and select Always keep on this device.
      • Wait until the file shows a green checkmark. That confirms it is stored locally on the PC.
    4. Create or open a folder on the PC that is outside the OneDrive folder, such as a folder under C:\Users<user name> that is not inside OneDrive.
    5. Drag the document from the OneDrive folder to that local folder.

If the document is being saved into OneDrive because Windows changed the default Documents location, restore the normal Documents folder location:

    1. In File Explorer, right-click Documents.
    2. Select Properties.
    3. Open the Location tab.
    4. Select Restore Default.

If OneDrive folder backup is turned on, turn it off first:

    1. Select the OneDrive cloud icon in the notification area.
    2. Select Help & Settings > Settings.
    3. Open Sync and backup.
    4. Select Manage backup.
    5. Turn off backup for the folders that should stay only on the PC.

If the file has a blue cloud icon or OneDrive shows a crossed-out cloud, start the OneDrive app first so the file can download before moving it.
