    Dear John,

I understand how frustrating this is when you already purchased Office Home & Business 2019 and need to activate it on macOS Ventura 13.

Unfortunately, since July 13, 2026, Office 2019 for Mac can no longer receive the required licensing update and therefore operates in reduced functionality mode. Office may open and print documents but cannot reliably activate for editing, saving, or creating files. Updating macOS or reinstalling Office 2019 will not resolve this limitation.

    The available options are:

    • Use Word, Excel, and PowerPoint through Microsoft 365 for the web.
    • Upgrade to a supported one-time purchase, such as Office Home & Business 2024.
    • Subscribe to Microsoft 365 for supported desktop apps and ongoing updates.

Your existing documents are not deleted or damaged and can still be opened in a supported Office version.

I know this might not be the answer you were hoping for, but I hope it clarifies the situation and sets the right expectations.

Thank you for your understanding, and I’m sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

    Best regards.

Also a current version of office will not run on Ventura. You will need to pick another option as your computer will no longer support any version of office (even a preinstalled version).

More detail: office 2019’s certificate expired and there is no update as it’s out of support. A supported version of office requires macOS Sonoma or later, though Sonoma support will probably end this fall with new macOS release.
