Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Hi, John Schaljo
A Microsoft 365 business subscription cannot be transferred or converted into a personal Microsoft account because business and personal subscriptions use separate account systems. Canceling one specific subscription does not require closing the entire business account.
Here are some suggestions you can try:
Ask the former employer’s Microsoft 365 administrator to sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center, then open Billing > Your products.
Identify the subscription responsible for the $17.85 monthly charge. They should check the product name, number of licenses, and payment method carefully.
If it is a separate subscription, select only that product and choose Cancel subscription or Turn off recurring billing. They should not delete the business tenant or cancel any other products. Cancellation options can depend on the billing agreement and renewal date.
Purchase Microsoft 365 Personal separately while signed in with the personal Microsoft account. The existing subscription itself cannot be moved between accounts.
Before the business license is removed, copy any needed OneDrive files and export Outlook email, contacts, and calendar items. Cancellation may eventually remove access to data stored in the business account.
If the charge cannot be identified, the business administrator should open a billing support request from the admin center.
