Are you switching from Microsoft 365 Family to Microsoft 365 Personal? In that case, you will have to wait for the Family subscription to expire before you can access 365 Personal, I believe.

    1. Check the subscription status at account.microsoft.com/services and sign in with the same Microsoft account that was used for the purchase.
    2. Find the Microsoft 365 subscription:
      • If it shows Manage, Cancel, or Change payment, the subscription is billed by Microsoft and is active in that account.
      • If management options are missing or limited, the subscription may be managed by a third party and must be handled with that provider.
    3. If the renewal was from a physical box or retail card, the subscription does not start until the product key is redeemed.
    4. If the subscription shows as active but Office still says canceled, open Word or Excel and go to File > Account, then sign in with the Microsoft account that has the active subscription. Close and reopen the app afterward.
    5. If documents still cannot be edited after renewal, the apps may still be using the old subscription state. Signing out of Office and signing back in with the account that shows the active subscription can refresh access.
    6. If the subscription status or expiration date looks wrong online, contact Microsoft Support.

If access to files was through a shared Family subscription before the change, those files remain intact, but subscription benefits can expire when sharing stops. In that case, files can still be viewed and printed, but editing requires an active subscription on the correct account.
