For Classic Outlook on Windows, if Folder Pane > Normal is not available, first try the other supported way to restore the pane:
- Open Outlook.
- Look for the > arrow on the side of the Outlook window.
- Select it to expand the Folder Pane.
If the folders still do not appear, check whether messages are being hidden by a folder view filter:
- Select the View tab.
- In Current View, select View Settings.
- Select Filter.
- Review these tabs for anything filtering mail from view:
- Tasks
- More Choices
- Advanced
If a specific default folder is missing from both Outlook and Outlook on the web, the folder can be hidden at the mailbox level. In that case, Microsoft documents using MFCMAPI to check whether the folder property PR_ATTR_HIDDEN is set to True and change it back to False.
Use MFCMAPI carefully: changing mailbox properties incorrectly can affect folder visibility. The documented steps are:
- Download and extract MFCMAPI.
- Launch mfcmapi.exe and select OK through the intro screen.
- Select Session > Logon.
- Select the Outlook profile for the affected mailbox.
- Double-click the mailbox.
- Navigate to the affected folder:
- Cached Mode: Root - Mailbox > IPM_SUBTREE
- Online Mode: Root Container > Top of information Store
- Select the missing folder and check
PR_ATTR_HIDDEN.
- If it is
True, right-click PR_ATTR_HIDDEN > Edit Property.
- Clear the Boolean checkbox.
- Select OK, close MFCMAPI, and restart Outlook.
If the issue started right after an update, also verify the pane is not simply minimized, because that prevents folders from being shown.
