I cannot access my MS 365 subscription on my new Windows 11 computer. It keeps telling me to go with the trial or join. My subscription is good until December.

    Hi, @mary ann haug

First, make sure the new computer is signed in with the same Microsoft account that owns the Microsoft 365 subscription.

    Please check this page: https://account.microsoft.com/services

If Microsoft 365 shows there as active until December, open Word or Excel on the new PC, then go to "File" > "Account" and sign in with that same Microsoft account.

    If issue still persists:

Before installing, it’s a good idea to uninstall all existing versions of Office to avoid conflicts.

    Here’s how:

    • Open the Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
    • Look for any version of Microsoft Office or Office apps, right-click, then choose Uninstall. Please uninstall all Office apps.
    • Once that’s done, restart your computer just to be safe.

    Then, to reinstall Microsoft Office:

    • Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services
    • Sign in using the same Microsoft account linked to your license.
    • Find your Microsoft 365 Subscription and click the "Install".
    • That will download the installer for the Office apps, just run it and follow the steps.

If anything’s unclear or the "Install" option still doesn’t show, feel free to let me know. I’ll be happy to walk you through it!

    Thanks!

If the subscription is active until December, the new PC is usually signed in with the wrong account or Office is still using the trial license.

    Try this in order:

    1. Check that the subscription is active
Go to Services & subscriptions and sign in with the Microsoft account that owns Microsoft 365. Confirm the subscription appears as active.
    2. Sign out of Office on the new PC
Open Word or Excel on the new Windows 11 computer. Go to File > Account and sign out.
    3. Sign back in with the subscription account
Reopen the Office app and sign in with the same Microsoft account that shows the active subscription. This usually switches Office from the trial to the paid subscription.
    4. If the trial still appears, reinstall Microsoft 365
Use the uninstall support tool to completely remove Office from the new PC, restart the computer, then reinstall Microsoft 365 from the account that owns the subscription.
    5. If the subscription was renewed with a retail box or card, enter the product key
If Microsoft 365 was bought as a physical box or card, the subscription does not start until the product key is redeemed.
    6. If Office says “Couldn’t Verify Subscription,” connect to the Internet
Office needs to connect online periodically to verify the subscription. After reconnecting, select Retry.
    7. If it still does not activate
Check the expiration date online. If it does not look correct, contact Microsoft Support. If this is a work or school subscription, contact the Microsoft 365 admin or IT department.
