How to Change an Account From Google to Microsoft

I had a school microsoft email, and like an idiot, I made a gmail account with the EXACT same email. Now I can no longer delete the google email as it says it is a school affiliated account. However, when I attempt to log into Microsoft the email no longer works and says that the account does not exist. It also marks the account on Outlook as a google account as well. I do not know what to do.

    Hello

To help us understand the issue, could you please clarify the following:

1/ What is the domain of your school email address? Have you successfully signed in to Microsoft services with this account before?

2/ When you try to sign in to Microsoft and receive "account does not exist," what is the exact error message?

3/ You mentioned that you cannot delete the Google account because it says it is school-affiliated. Could you share the exact message you see?

4/ When you say Outlook identifies the account as a Google account, could you clarify what you mean? For example, does Outlook show it as a Google/Gmail account during setup, or are emails being delivered through Gmail?

5/ Is this email address still provided and managed by your school, or has your enrollment/account status changed recently?

Your answers will help us determine whether the issue is related to the school's Microsoft account, a Google Workspace account, or the account configuration in Outlook.

    Kind regards,

Looking forward to hearing from you!

This cannot be converted from a Google account to a Microsoft account by merging or changing the account type.

    What is supported:

    1. Check whether there are actually two different accounts using the same email address.
      • If Microsoft shows “Which account do you want to use?”, that means there is both a Work or school account and a Personal account using the same email address.
      • The work or school account is created by the organization. The personal account may have been created separately.
    2. If the Gmail-based personal Microsoft account still exists, remove that email from it.
      • Go to Edit account info: Edit account info
      • Add another email address first if needed, then make that one primary.
      • After that, remove the Gmail address from the personal Microsoft account.
      • An email address can only be used with one Microsoft account at a time.
    3. If the school account no longer exists in Microsoft, that part must be handled by the school.
      • A work or school account is controlled by the organization.
      • If sign-in says the account does not exist, the school account may have been removed or the organization must correct the account state.
      • If the domain match is causing the duplicate-account prompt, the organization must take action on their side to prevent it.
    4. If Outlook is showing it as a Google account, that is only the account type added in Outlook.
      • In new Outlook for Windows, go to View settings or File > Account info > Accounts > Your accounts.
      • Find the Google account, select Manage, then Remove.
      • This removes it from Outlook only. It does not delete the actual account.
      • Warning: if Remove from all devices appears for a non-Microsoft account, Microsoft warns that some Microsoft Cloud data may be permanently lost.
    5. If the Gmail address was already removed from one Microsoft personal account but still cannot be added elsewhere, contact Microsoft Support to have the account association reviewed.
      • The accepted guidance in Microsoft Q&A is to first confirm the address is no longer listed under Account aliases on the original account.
      • If it is gone but still blocked, use Contact Microsoft Support.

    Key point:

    • It is not possible to combine or merge a work/school account with a personal Microsoft account.
    • The practical path is to free the email address from any personal Microsoft account alias, remove it from Outlook if it was added there as Google, and then have the school verify whether the work/school account still exists.
