Request for One-Time Exception: Certification Expired Due to UTC Time Zone Misunderstanding

Hello Microsoft Credentials Support Team,

I am writing to respectfully request a brief, one-time extension to complete my certification renewal assessment for my Microsoft Certified: Azure Developer Associate certification.

I fully intended to complete the renewal on my expiration date and had prepared for the assessment. Unfortunately, I misunderstood the exact expiration timing. I assumed the deadline was at the end of the day in my local time zone, rather than midnight UTC at the very beginning of the day. When I logged in to complete the assessment, I realized my credential had just expired.

I understand the 180-day window is policy and that tracking time zone conversions is my responsibility. Because I have worked hard to maintain my active status, I would be incredibly grateful if you could grant a short, 24-hour window for me to take the renewal assessment.

I am happy to provide my MCID and account email via private message once an agent is available to assist.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Best regards,

The renewal period is open for 180 days before your expiry date. The renewal window cannot be extended or reopened. There are no exceptions.

    Expiry dates are in UTC.

Can I renew my certification more than six months before it expires? No. The renewal assessment on Microsoft Learn is only available once you're eligible six months before your certification expires (expiration dates and times are in UTC).

My certification expired. What happens now? If your certification expires, you must earn the certification again by passing the required exam(s).

I think once the cert passes its UTC expiry the renewal just isn’t available under the Learn rules, and you can send your same message through a Microsoft Credentials support ticket so they can confirm what is or isn’t possible for your case.

Once a certification expires, renewal is no longer available. The required path is to earn the certification again by passing the required exam(s).

For renewal timing, the assessment is only available during the six-month eligibility window before expiration, and expiration dates and times are in UTC.

If an exception is requested, submit a Credentials support request:

    1. Go to the online support request.
    2. For Product family, select Learning.
    3. For Product or Service, select Microsoft Credentials.
    4. Select the category that best matches the issue.
    5. For Types of Support, select Professional No Charge.
    6. Enter location and time zone.
    7. Select Email as the preferred contact method.
    8. In the issue description, include the Learn username and attach screenshots if available.

Credentials support is provided through email.
