Connect that USB to your laptop.

Right click your Start Button and open Disk Management.

Expand the bottom pane so all drives are visible in that pane.

Please provide a screenshot of the Disk Management window.

IN the meantime, connect the USB to another PC to test if the USB is working correctly in that PC.

Also, is the USB a flash drive or external hard drive..

    Try these checks in order:

    1. Open Disk Management
      • Press Windows + R, type diskmgmt.msc, then press Enter.
      • Reconnect the USB and watch whether it appears briefly.
      • Check whether it shows as:
        • a disk with no drive letter
        • Unallocated
        • or does not appear at all
    2. If the USB appears but has no drive letter
      • Right-click the USB volume.
      • Select Change Drive Letter and Paths.
      • Click Add, choose a letter, and select OK.
    3. Try a different USB port
      • Connect the USB device directly to the PC.
      • Do not use an external hub or dock.
      • If it is a USB-C device or dongle, make sure it is connected to the correct USB-C port for that device.
    4. Check Device Manager for a USB error
      • Select Start, type device manager, and open Device Manager.
      • Look for the USB device, especially any item with a yellow exclamation mark.
      • Right-click the device, select Properties, and check Device status for an error code.
      • Follow the troubleshooting steps for that code in Error codes in Device Manager in Windows.
    5. Test the USB on another PC
      • If the USB is not visible in Disk Management on another PC either, the USB drive may have failed.
    6. If the device disconnects during transfer
      • This can happen with USB connection or power issues.
      • Try another port and disconnect other unused USB devices.
      • If the USB device supports external power, connect it to external power.

If Disk Management never shows the USB at all, and it also fails on another computer, that usually indicates the USB device has failed.
