I am trying to create a new outlook account for work. However, every time I try to create one, I get "Account creation has been blocked. We have detected some unusual activity and have blocked the creation of this account." I am unaware of what could unusual activity could be flagging me. I need this account created ASAP for work. Please help!

Hello, thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

This issue might be related to the specific Wi‑Fi network you’re connected to. For example, your IP address may be blocked from creating a new Microsoft account.

If you are using a VPN, temporarily disable it and try creating a new Microsoft account again.

If you’re not using any VPN, connect your PC to a different Wi‑Fi network, such as a mobile hotspot, and open a private browsing window (InPrivate/InPrivate Browsing) in different browsers like Edge or Chrome.

Then try creating a new Microsoft account using this link:

If you’re still having issues after trying these steps, try creating a new account using the Outlook app on your mobile device.

This block is usually triggered by automated security checks, most commonly due to unusual activity patterns, a high volume of repeated requests, or traffic from a network/location that has been flagged.

    Recommended steps:

    1. Stop repeated attempts temporarily Wait at least 24 hours before trying again. Repeated sign-up attempts can keep the block active or reset the waiting period. If it still fails after 24 hours, wait longer if possible, up to 1 week.
    2. Try a different network Switch from Wi-Fi to cellular data, or use a different Wi-Fi network. In some cases, the block is tied to the current network or location.
    3. Try a different sign-up method Create the account using an alternative method, such as using an email address instead of a phone number.
    4. Try a different device If account creation continues to fail, try creating the account from another device.
    5. Use the Microsoft account creation flow directly Start from Create an account and complete the standard steps: enter the email address, create a password, enter name, country/region, birthdate, complete the CAPTCHA, and verify the email address.
    6. Use the sign-in helper / troubleshooter For sign-in and verification-related blocks, use the available troubleshooter to identify the issue and see support options:
    7. If setup is urgent on a new PC Use an existing Microsoft account to get started, then add the new account later, or set up the PC with a local account first and switch later.

    Important notes:

    • Old email addresses used for Microsoft accounts cannot be reused, even if the old account was closed long ago.
    • Support agents cannot send password reset links or change account details.
