    Hi,

It sounds like the wallpaper you’re trying to select may not be a supported image file type or could be an invalid file. Try checking the file type by opening File Explorer, then going to View > Show > File name extensions. Once enabled, could you check whether the file has a .jpeg or .png extension? Open Settings > Personalization > Background > Browse photos and check what file extension appears there as well.

    Try these checks in order:

    1. In Settings > Personalization > Background, make sure Personalize your background is set to Picture, not Windows spotlight or Slideshow. If it is set to Windows spotlight, the background can keep changing.
    2. Go to Settings > Personalization > Themes and switch to the default Windows theme. Then return to Background and select the picture again. An active theme can override the background.
    3. Check whether the Bing Wallpaper app is installed:
      • Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps
      • Search for Bing Wallpaper
      • If it is installed, uninstall it
    4. If Windows only allows a solid color or refuses picture backgrounds, check this accessibility setting:
      • Open Control Panel
      • Set View by to Large icons
      • Open Ease of Access Center
      • Select Make it easier to focus on tasks
      • Turn off Remove background image (where available)
      • Apply the change, then try setting the picture again
    5. If the file shows an Edge icon, Windows may be treating it as a web-related file instead of a normal image file. The supported desktop background image formats in the provided documentation are .png, .jpg, and .bmp. Try saving the picture again as one of those formats, then browse to that saved file and select it.
    6. If the picture still does not stay applied, reset the theme first, then set the background again:
      • Settings > Personalization > Themes
      • Switch to the default Windows theme
      • Go back to Background
      • Choose Picture and select the image

If the wallpaper keeps changing back after that, the most likely causes in the provided guidance are Windows Spotlight, an active theme, or the Bing Wallpaper app overriding the image.
