I recently had to link my bigpond email to my telstra account and now receive the telstra email and mail on my outlook app however this stopped syncing to my computer. I am using classic outlook.

    Hi Debra Thompson,

If you're able to see new messages in webmail or another email client but Classic Outlook has stopped updating, the issue may be related to the local Outlook data file rather than the mailbox itself.

As a quick check, try creating a new Outlook data file and reconnecting the account:

    1. Close Outlook.
    2. Open Control Panel > Mail > Data Files.
    3. Add a new data file (or create a new Outlook profile if preferred).
    4. Restart Outlook and allow the mailbox to synchronize again.

If the mailbox begins receiving new messages after recreating the local data store, it suggests the original Outlook data file may have been causing the synchronization issue.

You may also want to check whether the issue affects all folders or only the Inbox by comparing recent messages in Outlook with those shown in webmail. This can help determine whether the problem is related to synchronization or folder-specific behavior.

I hope this points you in the right direction. Let me know if you need further assistance, feel free to ask me by clicking "Add Comment" or "Add Answer" if you cannot add comment so your response will be visible. Thanks for your effort.

For classic Outlook, try these checks in order:

    1. Make sure Outlook is not offline.
      • In classic Outlook, look at the bottom status bar.
      • If it shows Working Offline, go to Send/Receive and select Work Offline to turn offline mode off.
    2. Confirm the PC still has internet access.
      • Open a browser and test a site such as Microsoft or Bing.
      • If the browser also cannot connect, fix the Windows network connection first.
    3. Check whether the account settings need updating after the Telstra/BigPond account change.
      • In classic Outlook, compare the account’s POP or IMAP settings with the correct server settings.
      • If the password was changed during the Telstra account linking process, update the saved password in Outlook.
    4. If automatic setup no longer works, add or reconfigure the account manually.
      • Go to File > Account Information > Add Account.
      • Enter the email address.
      • Select Advanced options > Let me set up my account manually.
      • Choose POP or IMAP.
      • Enter the password and continue.
      • If setup fails, choose Change Account Settings and enter the server information from the email provider.
    5. If mail still does not sync, repair the Outlook profile.
      • A damaged profile can stop Outlook from syncing correctly.
      • Use the Outlook profile repair option, or create a new Outlook profile and add the account again.
    6. If Outlook itself is unstable, repair the Outlook app or test Safe Mode.
      • Start Outlook in safe mode with outlook.exe /safe.
      • If syncing works there, an add-in may be interfering.
    7. If messages are only missing in classic Outlook, verify the account type.
      • Using the wrong account type can prevent existing messages and folders from syncing correctly.

Because this started after linking the BigPond mailbox to Telstra, the most likely causes are updated password or updated POP/IMAP settings that classic Outlook still has cached.
