Sole Global Administrator Locked Out by MFA — Existing Support Case Stalled

I am the sole Global Administrator for my Microsoft 365 / Microsoft Entra tenant and I am completely locked out because of an MFA issue.

The tenant was previously provisioned through GoDaddy, but it has already been successfully defederated and authentication is now handled directly by Microsoft.

My Global Administrator username and password are accepted, but I cannot complete MFA. There is no other Global Administrator available who can reset my authentication methods.

I already have an open Microsoft support case. Microsoft contacted me regarding the case and told me they would call me back within approximately 20 minutes, but I never received the callback. I have since replied to the existing support ticket requesting assistance.

I also called Microsoft support again today. The automated/support process disconnected the call and instructed me to reply to the existing ticket, which I have already done. My support agent hasn't responded to me in 4 days.

This is a tenant lockout / sole Global Administrator MFA lockout, not a password-reset issue.

I need the existing case escalated to the Microsoft Data Protection / Tenant Recovery team so tenant ownership can be verified and my Global Administrator MFA registration can be reset.

I control the custom domain and can verify ownership through DNS. I can also provide tenant information, billing information, the affected administrator account, contact information, and any other documentation required.

Could a Microsoft External Staff member please contact me by private message so I can provide the tenant information and existing support case number privately?

Thank you.

    Hi @Michael Cokely,

First of all, I'm sorry to hear about the situation you're dealing with.

I did want to kindly note that this community is primarily a user-to-user support forum. As fellow community members, neither I nor the forum moderators generally have access to Microsoft's internal systems, the ability to intervene in support workflows, or the authority to escalate cases directly to the Data Protection Team (DPT) on a customer's behalf.

Based on what I've seen in similar cases, the Data Protection Team (DPT) often handles a high volume of requests, and cases involving Global Administrator account recovery and MFA verification typically take around 7-10 business days, and sometimes longer, depending on the verification requirements and overall case workload.

It's also possible that the engineer currently assigned to your case is temporarily unavailable due to scheduling, time off, or internal case reassignment. While I completely understand your concern and the impact this situation may be having, I would encourage you to continue monitoring your existing support case and any associated email communications for updates.

If you still do not receive an update within the next few days, you might want to review the email messages you've received from Microsoft Support. In some cases, the support engineer's email signature may include additional contacts such as a Team Lead (TL) or Technical Manager (TM). If those contacts are listed, you could consider sending a polite follow-up email referencing your existing case number and asking whether they can help review the current status of the case or provide an update.

If a considerable amount of time passes without any response or progress, you could also consider opening a new support request and referencing the existing case number so Microsoft can review the situation and determine whether further action is needed.

These are simply my thoughts based on experience with similar situations, and I wanted to share them because I genuinely sympathize with the position you're in. I sincerely hope the ownership of your tenant can be verified smoothly and that Microsoft is able to help restore access to your Global Administrator account as soon as possible.

Wishing you the very best of luck, and I hope you receive a positive update soon.
